Princess Eugenie announces pregnancy with rare photo

Princess Eugenie has announced she is expecting a third child with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

Sharing an adorable snap on Instagram of her two boys August and Ernest looking at the ultrasound, she wrote: “Baby Brooksbank due 2026!”

Eugenie, the daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, had taken a six-month break on Instagram, returning to celebrate her husband’s milestone 40th birthday yesterday (3 May).

She married the marketing executive back in 2018, and the two share August, five, and Ernest, two.

Alongside the birthday post, she also shared a lovely snap of her eldest playing on the beach.

Then today, she updated fans with the massive news that they’re set to become a family of five by the end of the year.

The news was also shared by the official Royal Family X account.

They wrote: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their third child together, due this summer.

“August (aged 5) and Ernest (aged 2) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family.

“His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news.”

Fans and celebrities were quick to share their excitement.

TV presenter Charlotte Hawkins wrote: “Big congratulations!”

While another of her followers added: “Such a lovely picture. Wishing you all the best.”

Eugenie’s post was also notable for offering a relatively rare glimpse at August and Ernest.

Much of Eugenie’s social feed is dedicated to her work as a mentor for The King’s Foundation, patron of Artswork, and as a former patron of the Anti-Slavery International.

She stepped down from the latter role following the arrest of her father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, though it’s not confirmed that this is the reason she and the charity parted ways.

Photos of her kids are often few and far between, and she rarely shares their faces.

We got our best look at the youngsters in a post celebrating Ernest’s second birthday, with Eugenie writing: “What an incredible two years it’s been. Always smiling, always laughing, always giving hugs and hello’s and making everyone happy. My golden boy, we love you!”

When Eugenie’s new baby is born, they will not have a royal title.

That’s because of the 1917 Letter Patent, which means only the children of the monarch, male-line grandchildren and the Prince of Wales’ eldest child would be princes and princesses.

Eugenie, the granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, therefore is a princess – but her children do not have royal titles.

Confusingly, the children of her sister Princess Beatrice do get to have titles.

That’s because Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, is an Italian aristocrat.

Therefore, Beatrice’s children – Sienna, four, and Athena, one – are all Italian ‘contessas’ or ‘nobile donna’.
