On Nov. 18, 2025, Meghan Markle offered a glimpse into how she and her family prepare for the Thanksgiving holidays – beginning right in their own backyard. The Duchess of Sussex has long embraced homegrown ingredients, and a newsletter from her lifestyle brand, As Ever, highlighted how the family harvests herbs from their Montecito garden as part of their holiday traditions.
Meghan has shared in past interviews, including a conversation with Marie Claire in November 2024, that family time sits at the center of her celebrations. She explained that “being close to my mom is great,” noting that her mother, Doria Ragland, regularly joins them for the holiday gatherings. Her open-door philosophy extends beyond immediate family, too. As she told the magazine, “I think you always make sure there’s room at the table for your friends who don’t have family, which is really key.”
Through the years, that philosophy has brought notable guests to the Sussex home. In 2023, feminist icon Gloria Steinem visited for the holiday, adding to a tradition that welcomes both close friends and inspiring figures. No matter the guest list, Meghan emphasized that the most meaningful part of the celebration is watching the holiday unfold through the eyes of her children, Archie and Lilibet. She has said that “we’re always making sure we have something fun to do,” especially as they grow into an age where they understand and appreciate the festivities.

In her November 2025 newsletter, Meghan detailed how her family – Prince Harry included – gathers fresh herbs for recipes right from their garden. The seasonal ritual blends simplicity with intention, capturing the warmth, closeness, and joy that shape the Sussex family’s holiday tradition.
Meghan’s As Ever newsletter highlighted the role homegrown sage plays in her kitchen and in her family’s autumn routines.
“When it comes to our founder’s favorites, the delicate, herbaceous flavor of sage ranks high on the list,” the newsletter read.
The newsletter noted that images shared on Instagram featuring Meghan surrounded by purple blooms were not lavender, but sage:
“Why, you ask? Well, those photos you’ve seen this year on our Instagram of Meghan walking through what seems like lavender, with its gorgeous purple hue, actually share the beauty of flowering sage (Fun fact: the varietal is called Santa Barbara).”

These garden walks often include the entire family. As the newsletter described:
“Those strolls, with Archie and Lili running in tow, her husband checking on the bees, Pula chasing the ball with Mia trying to keep up – those were the sun-drenched moments that made an everyday walk something a bit more magical. And that sage, that purple, that scent around the garden, was always there in the background.”
The family’s love for sage extends beyond cooking. Meghan frequently gifts the herb to friends or infuses it into oils and honey. This ritual inspired her newest product: As Ever’s Sage Honey with Honeycomb. The newsletter announced:
“Here we are: a stunning sage honey, aromatic and earthy, epicurean in its depth of flavor and elegant simplicity… This special honey is the top holiday tip you’ll want to share. Enjoy!”
As Ever also released a suggested recipe that aligns with what Meghan envisioned for a quintessential Thanksgiving dish:
“When dreaming up the Holiday Collection months ago, Meghan imagined what it would taste like to have a sage honey drizzled on her Thanksgiving turkey.”
Fans can recreate the flavor by mixing Sage Honey with Dijon mustard, citrus, stock, and spices to make a glaze that complements any holiday table.
