Prince Harry demands government security review but avoids involving King Charles

PRINCE Harry is not seeking help from his father the King to get his 24-hour armed taxpayer-funded bodyguards back – but still wants a government security review.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, reignited his security battle after writing to new Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.

He is asking that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) carry out a risk management board (RMB) assessment.

The assessments should be conducted for each member of the royal family and other qualifying VIPs every year, it is argued.

Harry, who stepped down from royal duties five years ago but regularly returns for charity events, has not had an assessment since 2019.

He receives a ‘bespoke’ police protection each time he visits the UK including a police sweep of a charity function and help from British Transport Police when he last visited in September.

Last week ex-Met Police top cop Neil Basu, former head of counter terrorism who has previously sat on Ravec, argued Harry should have close protection.

Harry lost his High Court case in April and blasted the ruling which effectively ended his legal bid, a “good old fashioned establishment stitch up”.

But the ongoing row risks reconciliation efforts with his father, The Sunday Times reported.

Sources close to Harry insist he is not asking for his father to intervene but just wants a RMB assessment he believes he is entitled to.

It comes after Charles was unable to speak to Harry during the court case fearing he could be made to intervene in a legal dispute and cause a constitutional crisis.

A spokesman for Prince Harry declined to comment.
