The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals in 2020, moving to California for a fresh start and to pursue other ventures.
They have long appeared to be a united front, but speculative headlines continue to follow them.
Recently, rumors have been circulating about a potential rift between the Duke and Duchess, as the two have made several public appearances alone.
As Markle once said, the two were like ‘salt and pepper’ – always being passed around together, but recently things have seemingly been a lot different.
The Duchess has since confirmed that the pair are ‘professionally separating.’
Meghan Markle’s ventures
Markle has notably attended several public events alone in recent months, including an appearance at Paris Fashion Week and Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit.
She’s also been working on her lifestyle brand As Ever, the Netflix series With Love, Meghan, which ran for two seasons on Netflix in 2025, and the podcast Confessions of a Female Founder.
As Ever focuses on curated home and kitchen products, With Love, Meghan follows the Duchess as she shares cooking, gardening, and hosting tips, while her podcast features conversations with successful female entrepreneurs.
In March 2026, Netflix stepped back as an equity partner in As Ever, with Meghan continuing to grow the brand independently.
RadarOnline also reports that Markle is looking at future steps in her career.
“Meghan’s not someone who sits back and waits for opportunities to come to her. She’s already creating the next one on her own terms,” a source told RadarOnline.
Prince Harry’s charity projects and work
While Markle is building a commercial lifestyle brand, the Prince has been focusing on charitable and advocacy-driven commitments.
His charitable endeavors include the Archewell Foundation and the Invictus Games, a competition for the wounded and sick military personnel.
Prince Harry also has two paying jobs – being the chief impact officer for coaching company BetterUp, and working with Travalyst, a company providing sustainable tourism.
It’s also been reported that he received a $20 million (£18.4 million) advance for his memoir ‘Spare,’ which was published early 2023.
As the pair pursue solo ventures, there’s been speculation of a possible rift, which Prince Harry has addressed.
Prince Harry addresses solo appearances
Prince Harry appeared alone at the DealBook Summit in New York back in December, where a journalist questioned him about the rumors surrounding their recent solo public appearances.
He shut down the rumors, stating: “Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house maybe 10 or 12 times, and we’ve apparently divorced maybe 10 or 12 times as well. So, it’s just like, ‘what?’ It’s hard to keep up.”
Despite Prince Harry dispelling divorce rumors, it’s evident that both parties are currently prioritizing their solo career ventures.
Markle confirms ‘professional separation’
In an interview with People, Markle opened up about their relationship differences amid her return to the entrepreneurial world.
As the couple continues their work with the Archewell Foundation, the Duchess shared that they are also pursuing solo projects.
Markle said: “I imagine that it’s the same as it would be for any couple. You have your individual jobs, but then you have things that you share together.
“We’ve been such a close team for so long that we’re just in it beat by beat with each other.
“And I love that. To be able to be a female founder and do that with my husband’s support means everything.”
Summarizing Markle’s solo ventures, Us Weekly stated that she’s ‘rebranding as a one-woman show.’
Public relations expert Mark Borkowski told the outlet: “Meghan is no longer half of a royal duo.
“She’s re-emerging as a solo brand—global, aspirational, and strategically aloof. The royal chapter was about proximity to power. This one’s about reclaiming it.”
A source also told Us Weekly: “It’s healthy for them as a couple to have separate spheres, identities, and passion projects.”
Markle has since highlighted her motivation by saying to Harper’s Bazaar: “I like the community of work and the connection,” adding that much of her drive is simply ‘in my DNA.’
She explained that her work ethic carries into everything she does—from business to personal life, saying: “How you are in one place… is how you are in other places.”
Drawing parallels between parenting and entrepreneurship, she added: “There’s no such thing as perfect… I, too, get to make mistakes,” highlighting her belief in learning and growth over perfection.
