King Charles could be set to travel to the US to mark the 250th anniversary of the country’s independence next year, it has been reported. Granted that the King’s health allows him to travel, the 77-year-old will likely be joined by Queen Camilla.
It will mark his first visit since 2018, when he represented Queen Elizabeth II at George H. W. Bush’s funeral. The visit, which will likely see US President Donald Trump hosting the royal couple, looks set to take place in April.
This will be occur in the run-up to America’s July 4 Independence Day celebrations, with the US President reportedly set to host some major celebrations during the King and Queen’s visit.
The King will likely be kept busy during his visit but the trip will likely spark speculation over whether he will pay a visit to see Prince Harry.
Having moved to the US in 2020, Harry currently lives in California with Meghan Markle and their children, six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet.
As well as a visit to see his youngest son, who last visited the UK in September, the King could also spend time with his two youngest grandchildren.
It remains unclear when the King last spent time with Archie and Lilibet, but it is speculated to have been during their visit to the UK for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
The King is reportedly “very sad” about his lack of bond with Archie and Lilibet. Speaking to Grazia earlier this year, a source said: “The King does not like conflict and he would love for this all to be resolved. But Harry has to earn the trust back.
“The ball is in his court in that respect. The King loves his son and he is very sad he has not spent any time with Archie and Lilibet, but Harry hasn’t made reconciliation easy.”
