Meghan Markle was brutally savaged by a royal commentator after it emerged how she likes to be addressed, even in semi-formal settings, during her latest interview. The Duchess of Sussex gave an interview to US magazine Harper’s Bazaar, also featuring on the cover of its December 2025/January 2026 art issue.
The magazine’s Kaitlyn Greenidge writes about how she met up with the Duchess to conduct the interview, saying: “We’re in a grand brownstone on the Upper East Side that belongs to one of Meghan’s friends. When I enter, the house manager announces, ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex,’ even though we appear to be the only other two people in the house.”
The part of the cover story already sparked backlash from fans online and now royal experts, including Kinsey Schofield, have criticised the Duchess.
She said on her Youtube programme, Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered: “What an idiot you look like woman. This entire article, she’s kissing Meghan’s b***. But if I were in Meghan’s team, I’d hate if that was left it. I’d have asked if that could be removed. I felt they had that kind of power, but that is one of the worst representations throughout the article.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex still retain their royal titles, despite leaving the Firm in 2020, but no longer use them commercially, following a mutual agreement with the royals.

The mixed public reaction shows that Meghan Markle’s image continues to spark debate whenever she appears in the media. Even though the Harper’s Bazaar interview was largely viewed as offering positive insights into her new life and upcoming creative projects, a single detail about how she was addressed was enough to ignite a wave of criticism from royal watchers.
At present, Meghan Markle’s team has not issued any official response to the comments made by royal experts or social media users. However, this incident once again demonstrates that every move involving the Duchess of Sussex is scrutinized closely and can easily become the center of international media controversy.
