Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be poised for a return to The Firm, not as full-time working royals, but as transatlantic royal ambassadors playing a crucial role in strengthening the monarchy’s global presence, particularly in the United States.
According to royal commentator and former palace photographer Ian Pelham Turner, there is growing discussion behind the scenes about the Sussexes stepping back into the royal fold in a part-time capacity.
This would allow them to represent the Crown abroad while still pursuing personal ventures.
“They would be far better off with a secure and united Royal Family, both American and British,” Ian told the Express. “Which would be the most fabulous combination of the lot.”

Ian suggested that, five years after their departure, now could be the right time for Harry and Meghan to return in a more official capacity. However, this time, on their terms.
“I wonder whether or not Harry and Meghan, as established royals again, could have a pivotal role in America,” he said. “That would be really putting out a royal message in America.”
This suggestion marks a shift from the strict stance once taken by the Palace.
When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex first requested to step back and serve the Crown part-time, the request was firmly denied.
But Ian believes that this decision may have been shortsighted.
“The biggest mistake is trying to vilify Harry and Meghan,” he said. “All it does in Britain is remind people of Harry and Meghan.”
While Harry and Meghan are still not permitted to use their HRH titles for commercial gain, Pelham Turner imagines a hybrid model that would allow the couple to represent the monarchy abroad while continuing with their charitable and media ventures as private citizens.
This setup, he notes, could mirror the early days of Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. The couple once held part-time royal roles while pursuing other professions.
Harry might be ready to return to royal life
Despite the couple’s rocky exit and controversial interviews, Ian believes that Harry’s talent for royal duty still shines through.
Ian suggested that “whether he likes it or not,” he naturally fits the role.
He also believes the time spent away from royal duties may have given the Duke clarity. He noted that five years away may have been enough , and Harry might be ready now.
Of course, any return to royal life would be complicated by tensions with Prince William, which reportedly remain unresolved.
Ian called William the “hardest nut to crack”. However, he criticised the future king for “putting himself before the monarchy” through his refusal to make amends with his brother.
Despite William’s reported opposition to reconciliation, Ian still believes that healing the rift is not just possible, but vital.
