Meghan Markle’s Veterans Day post branded ‘utterly appalling’ as people take offence

Meghan Markle has been called out for her Veterans Day post as people admitted they were at a ‘genuine loss for words’ over it.

On 11 November, the UK marked the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, which is also the same day the US marked Veterans Day, which honours all those who have served.

Meghan, 44, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute honouring the latter occasion.

The post in question was a clip of her husband, Prince Harry, during his Afghanistan deployment, giving a rare glimpse of him in action as a soldier.

The clip was filmed during a TV interview at Camp Bastion, which showed Harry abruptly springing into action when an alarm sounded, signalling a potential security threat.

Without an inch of hesitation, he can be seen breaking off mid-sentence and racing toward his Apache helicopter, ready to respond.

She also included a photo of Harry from his recent trip to Canada last week to commemorate Remembrance Day.

The Duke of Sussex served in the British Army from 2007 to 2013, completing two tours in Afghanistan. During his service, he achieved the rank of Captain and qualified as an Apache helicopter pilot.

In 2014, a year before his retirement, Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games – an international adaptive sports competition for wounded, injured, and sick service members and veterans – designed to promote recovery through sport. The Games have since become a biennial global event.

Meghan captioned the clip: “As my husband says, ‘Once served. Always serving.’

“Thank you to all who served, sacrificed, and continue to serve.

“Honoring you on Veterans Day. And every day.”

It didn’t take long for the anti-Meghan brigade to come out in full force, with many seemingly confusing the day with the British Remembrance Day.

One social media user hit out: “This is so utterly appalling, I’m at a genuine loss for words.”

A second chimed in: “She’s completely clueless, Nov 11th is traditionally for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice – it’s why we lay wreaths for the dead and poppies for Flanders Fields, this f’in woman.”

“It’s actually outrageous that she posted Harry running around in a pretend shot,” wrote a third.

Others, however, fumed over Meghan paying tribute specifically to her husband – despite her saying ‘thank you to all who served’.

“Lol only Meghan can make Veterans Day about her meal ticket,” hissed a fourth.

Another echoed: “Of course she is making it about Harry.”

And a final critic seethed: “This is the most desperate and ridiculous post I have EVER seen. She flat out doesn’t get it.”
