Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the royal family five years ago and the relationship has remained tense ever since, with the couple even being excluded from an upcoming event.
It’s believed they won’t be attending the royal family’s Christmas celebrations at Sandringham, despite the Duke of Sussex recently taking steps to end the feud by reuniting with his father King Charles.
The relationship between the Sussexes and The Firm first broke down when they stepped down as senior royals, with Meghan later confessing she wasn’t clued in on royal etiquette – something former butler Grant Harrold agrees with.It comes after Meghan Markle’s ‘awkward’ joke to Kate Middleton had an embarrassing response.
Speaking exclusively to The Express US about Meghan’s time in the royal family, Harrold said, “Meghan saying that she didn’t understand royal etiquette makes sense because she is from America so she wasn’t expected to know how to do things.
“She may have watched the royal family, but she wouldn’t know the etiquette and rules.”

In contrast, Kate Middleton seemed to be aware of what she was marrying into before tying the knot with Prince William.
Explaining the differences, Harrold told us, “The Princess of Wales obviously spent years dating Prince William and got to learn along the way. Meghan and Harry were quicker, and there wasn’t the same amount of time.”
Harrold then pointed out the subtle signs Meghan wasn’t prepared for life inside the royal family. “I did notice that when Meghan was attending events with Harry, you could see Harry giving her pointers and advice, so she was learning on the job,” he told us.
Meghan opened up about how much she struggled in the royal family during an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“Unlike what you see in the movies, there’s no class on how to… how to speak, how to cross your legs, how to be royal,” she disclosed.
The Duchess of Sussex added, “There’s none of that training. That might exist for other members of the family. That was not something that was offered to me.”
