Princess Beatrice welcomes baby – her name has everyone talking.

Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are now proud parents of two! They celebrated the arrival of their second child on January 22, 2024.

Although she was born a bit early, weighing just 4 pounds and 5 ounces, both mother and baby are reported to be “healthy and doing well,” as stated by Buckingham Palace.

“What a beautiful name!”

The news of the royal baby has certainly brought joy not only to the family but also to royal enthusiasts around the globe. The delighted parents announced the news on January 29th, prompting an outpouring of love and congratulations on social media.

Even though the little one arrived a few weeks ahead of schedule, with her due date in early spring, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo are completely smitten with their new addition.

“We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect,” Edoardo shared on Instagram, conveying the immense love he and Beatrice have for their daughter.

“What a beautiful name. Congratulations!” one commenter expressed, while another added, “I love Athena’s name. So happy they’re all healthy!”

Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi has captured the attention of many, and it’s not solely due to its charm. There’s a rich historical context that has sparked conversations everywhere.

In Greek mythology, Athena represents wisdom, warfare, and rational thought. However, the name carries more than just mythological significance; it also ties into the British royal family’s lineage. Born to Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Athena is not only a lovely name but also links her to the Greek roots of the House of Windsor.

Princess Diana connection

Here’s an interesting twist: Beatrice’s grandfather, Prince Philip, was born in Corfu in 1921 as part of the Greek royal family. He was the child of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg. Thus, naming their daughter Athena is a nod to that Greek heritage.

But there’s more — baby Athena’s arrival has elevated her position in the royal line of succession. She is now 11th in line for the throne, which means her Aunt Princess Eugenie has moved down to 12th.

Additionally, this isn’t the first time the name Athena has appeared in royal circles. In 2024, Lady Kitty Spencer, the niece of the late Princess Diana, also chose the name Athena for her daughter, keeping it within the family.

Reaction from the public

The public’s response has been incredibly positive, with fans flooding social media to express their affection for Athena and her parents. One fan shared, “Welcome to the world, beautiful little one! Congratulations to everyone!” while another exclaimed, “Awwww! I’m so thrilled for them! She’s absolutely stunning!!!!”

Even those who know the family well have praised Beatrice for her caring nature. “She’s so nurturing and actively involved in both kids’ lives. It’s wonderful to witness my best friend embracing this new chapter,” remarked Gabriella Peacock, a close friend of Beatrice.

Three children

This marks the arrival of Beatrice and Edoardo’s second child, following the birth of their daughter Sienna in 2021. Athena also has an older brother, Wolfie, from Edoardo’s previous relationship, who is already completely smitten with his new sister, as Edoardo describes it.

Since 2016, Edoardo has been a dedicated father to Wolfie, while Princess Beatrice, who is 9th in line for the throne, has embraced her role as a loving stepmother. Friends and acquaintances of the couple have praised their parenting abilities. “Bea has such a good heart and she’s incredibly kind, so motherhood has come very easily to her,” shared a close friend. “She’s an amazing mom.”

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo are clearly nurturing a wonderful, loving family, and Athena is a delightful addition to their lives. With their hearts “overflowing with love,” as Edoardo expressed, they are cherishing every moment with their little girl.

The name Athena carries a rich history, beauty, and significant royal heritage. It’s evident that this little princess is already making an impact, and she’s not even a month old! We’re excited to see what the future has in store for her.

Let’s spread some love for the royal family and celebrate the arrival of Baby Athena! What are your thoughts on her name? Share your opinions in the comments!
