Express Premium Banner Princess Beatrice’s duties at charity come to end days after Sarah Ferguson scandal

Princess Beatrice’s current duties at a charity Prince Philip loved have come to an end. The princess, 37, is no longer carrying out the duties she had at the Outward Bound Trust – a charity which helps young people to grow through real adventure.

Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter has played a role at the charity for six years, when she became a trustee. Her role with the charity came after Prince Andrew – who was also once on the board of trustees – had to step down as patron of the charity following his 2019 Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis about his past friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

This was a blow for Andrew, especially as the charity was important to his father Prince Philip – who had been a patron for 65 years.

While Beatrice is believed to no longer have her current role in the charity, Richard Eden for The Daily Mail said he has been told by Shelly Phillips, Outward Bound’s head of marketing and communications, that the princess’s work for the charity is not yet fully up.

He said he was told that the princess’ contribution has been “greatly valued” and that in the future, Beatrice will have a “new role” with the charity.

This will reportedly be announced in due course.

Princess Beatrice’s news came at the end of a difficult week for the York family, with her mum Sarah Ferguson having been involved in a scandal after it was revealed she had emailed Jeffrey Epstein in 2011 after he was released from prison for child sex offences.

In the email, Sarah – the Duchess of York – referred to Epstein as her “supreme friend” and apologised to him for disowning him in an interview.

A spokesperson for the duchess said Sarah only sent the email at the time as she feared he was going to sue her for defamation.

However, the revelation of the email this week has resulted in a major PR crisis for Sarah, with the duchess having been dropped as patron of many charities.

Princess Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie have not commented on the matter; however, a royal expert told Express.co.uk that they are likely finding the situation “devastating”.
